It’s been a minute since I have had time to write-61 weeks ago I embarked on a journey to become a Paramedic. 12 weeks of Anatomy & Physiology and 49 grueling weeks of Paramedic School. Last night I graduated as a Nationally Registered Paramedic!! This past year has been filled with ups and downs, challenges that seemed insurmountable and times I wondered if it was worth the effort. My family stood by and cheered me on the entire way. Pretty sure my wife is up for Sainthood 😜🤣🤣 What I really learned-the most important take away from all of this-is that I have a support system of friends, family and coworkers that is beyond awesome.
I’ve talked before about the opportunity that was offered by Chief Nodine-he took a chance on me. Last night he was at my graduation-it was all the more memorable because of his own health battles and the fact that he once again showed my support. When I told him thank you, he said “ I didn’t do anything but give you the keys” to which I replied, yup and I drove it like I stole it!!🤣🤣🤣
As a kid growing up watching Emergency! I wanted nothing more than to be like Roy and Johnny-Firefighter/Paramedic. Today, after 40 some years I can say I am. This wouldn’t be possible with out my “bionic ears”- my cochlear implants have opened the world back up to me.
That’s not to say there haven’t been challenges. For the first time in my life I had an experience that made me feel like I had a disability. An instructor that I have yet to decide if he was just not understanding of how CI’s work, or just a crotchety old a$&hole pushed me to the brink of giving up. I probably should not admit that I took an immeasurable amount of pleasure when he had to announce my name as a Paramedic at graduation, and he leaned in and whispered I’d rather punch you🤣🤣🤣🤣 Not gonna lie, it may not be the best thing for me to admit, but it felt absolutely wonderful to know that despite his best efforts, I made it😁

I can not express my gratitude for all the people (especially my wife and kids!) who have helped me study, learn and stood beside me and cheered me on. I didn’t do this alone, I don’t think there is anyway I could have.

Don’t give up, it doesn’t matter how old you are or what people may think-chase that dream, don’t let anyone or anything set a limit for you. If this fat, deaf and old guy can do it, anyone can!!🤣🤣
The next chapter is starting, and the next goal is in sight-granted, I can only see it with a telescope, but I’m closer today than Yesterday 🤣 what’s the next goal??

Congratulations brother. No one deserves this more than you. I knew you would make it.
