This was a tough week. Technology is awesome when it works-when it doesn’t it can be a totally dumpster fire!!🔥
Good stuff first of the week. Got to see The Rock Star Surgeon-Dr Nelson said that despite my best efforts, all was good and pulled the one stitch that refused to dissolve! (THAT was a relief!) and after that, the wheels fell off…..
Fascinating thing about my CI’s-my phone can stream the sound directly. This means when I get a phone call, the sound goes directly to me, and I can hear and have a conversation. With out that streaming, I have to hold the phone directly over the mic (that I can’t see) and only rely on one “ear” to hear, or go to speaker phone-we all know how well that works🙄 So, Tuesday morning my CI’s and phone got in an all out brawl, resulting in neither of them talking to each other. Normally, a cool off period is understandable, but in this case they had joint custody of my hearing and I was on the losing side!! Fortunately, my Awesome Audiologists was able to get me in on Friday, have some serious one-on-one counseling with the offending parties, and got everything working like it should!!😁🙏- Now, I may have mentioned how Amazing and Fantastic this Audiologists is, and can’t thank her enough for getting me ears. BUT, even the nicest people can have that darkness hidden deep inside. Anyone who has Hearing Aids or CI’s can relate. She asked me how things were going, and I said I think really well-probably catch 90% in quiet. Her eyes lit up like a kid at Christmas, thinly veiling the sadistic glee of a dungeon master given a new toy, and a smile that reached past her mask was clearly evident-“Great!! Want to go to the BOOTH??” 😳😬🤷♂️ Sure why not? (How can you say no?? LOL) turns out, I was wrong- I’m getting 95% in quiet 😁😁 She told me that’s good for only having the device 16 days! So, that’s cool. Now if I could translate that to the real world….
That gets us to the picture. I HEARD the end. I heard my Oldest Munchkin play in a High School Competition for the last time. It was bittersweet. For one, band has been a huge part of our lives for the past five years. I’ve “heard” her play for ever, but this last time, I HEARD HER. Not the cacophony of sound that is the band or ensemble, but I was able to make out the sounds SHE made, without anyone telling me that’s what I was hearing. So, yea man, it was a great week!!
