Sooo, who knew all the stories about life being over when you got into Paramedic School weren’t just a bunch of BS??🤣🤣 I need to be better about writing these, just to exercise my mind in a way to release some of the steam. I am extremely excited to be in school, and I am more determined than ever to get through this-especially after yesterday- more on that later…
So, being out of school for almost 30 years😳 has proven to be interesting-this whole online computer stuff-just Uggh. I doesn’t give me much free time, but I have gotten a chance to try to advocate for the Hard of Hearing. I went to my supervisor at work, with some samples of Clear View Masks. These are masks that are designed with a clear plastic area over the mouth, that allows someone to read lips. This is a huge deal for HOH- and that demographic grows larger each year. Anyway, she took it to the Logistics Supervisor, and they took it up the chain-the end result was Leadership listened to the need and the solution, and now all the vehicles will have the mask to be used with HOH patients!!! HUGE win!! It’s awesome that patient care comes first.

Our fire Department became full time January 1st, and is now know as South Madison Fire Territory (SMFT). Things have not slowed down-last year has more runs than ever, and this year has started off at the same pace, if not more. I have taken several classes (including Fire 1&2) and have learned a ton, and look forward to learning even more.

So about yesterday, and why I know that this is what I want to do. I moved to nights – probably not the smartest thing I have ever done, but I get to work with CCT (Critical Care Transport). As an EMT-B, we are the MICU (Mobile Intensive Care Unit ) Operators. We drive what Jami’s Tiny Humans refer to as “The BIG Black Ambulance “!🤣 Anyway, long night-busy, we’ve been out all shift, and end up a long way from home-over shift. The helicopter has to come get the crew, and since I was so far over, the sent another EMT (my “Little” Buddy) down with the pilot, and I got to fly home. Now, I’ve been on several helicopters-just none this small- but let me tell you, there is NOTHING like it. I am more determined than ever to get through this class, continue my education and experience and end up on one of these amazing teams. I can not express the admiration I have for these Nurses, Medics and RT’s-these people are some of the best clinicians you will ever find. Every day they put themselves out there to deliver care in situation’s that would make Johnny Gage faint. It is a huge honor to get to work with the Best in The Buisness, and the family/Team atmosphere is something you just can’t explain to someone that hasn’t done it. Words don’t do it justice, and like I told one of the guys the other day-it makes at the putting up with all the complaining I “can’t hear” worth it🤣🤣🤣😜
Hopefully I will get better at this, but even if I don’t, I won’t stop trying-at anything!!
