The New Career

Three weeks ago, I started Orientation with a new company in a new career. I was fortunate enough to get a job as an EMT for IU Health LifeLine. it is an amazing company that is growing and offers more opportunities for education and benefits than I ever thought I would get! Who in their right mind would leave a field they had worked in one form or another for 27 years and start over doing something completely different? Why? I have made it no secret the joy I have found getting back into the First Responder field. The amount of stress on me and my family has dropped drastically-because I am happy. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed what I did! But the fulfillment of doing something to help others can not be matched. the amount of acceptance has been overwhelming. From the Fire Department to the new job-the people are supportive and helpful. I am truly blessed and lucky to have these experiences.

Speaking of experiences, the past couple of weeks The Fire Department let me attend Swift Water Rescue training! It was a blast! There were seven of us that went to the class and we got to learn how to navigate rapids in exposure suits, jump in and try to rescue a person in the middle of the rapids, swim through currents, navigate strainers (obstacles at or slightly below the surface) throw rope bags to victims, use ropes to set up safety lines and some boat operations. It was absolutely amazing!! I also learned that I am not as young as I once was!! 😜 LOL that, and short legs with exposure suits “fits most” don’t really work well!! LOL

Basically, I have been given opportunities that I am lucky enough to be able to take. Don’t pass them up! If you have a chance to do something-Do it! My life is always crazy-I am constantly doing something, training, learning and just flat out having a blast! Thank God I have a wife that puts up with me and helps me get through all the craziness!
