Fun Build, and a “Broken” week!

So, I have a buddy that’s got an awesome toy-a side-by-side. Not having much experience with said toy, I was amazed at all the different options you can get to put on one and the cool accessories available. Long story short, he asked if I could build a rack to go over the bed. Well, I figured it would be fun to give it a shot🤷‍♂️😜

My only directions/request was that it needed to be at least 16-17 inches above the bed and some way to hold a rifle case. Okay, mission accepted. I started research and found that they make these anchor points that go in holes in the side rail and make the racks detachable. That is a must in my mind-make it so it can go on and off-with one person. Nothing I found really had anything specifically made for rifle cases, so that meant I needed to come up with something. Ahh, I forgot to mention I needed to be done in like three weeks because he was taking to out west Elk hunting 😜

I started looking into material-what could I use to make this ? I had a hitch rack that my wife refused to let me use-she was afraid of driving with it in on vacation 😂🤷‍♂️ That provided the perfect starting point. For mounting, I found that there were steel ring tie down points anchored in-perfect for me! I took some 1/4” plate steel and made a strap to weld to these anchor points and wrap the top of the side rail. I then took some solid 3/4” bar stock and made post-these would fit into the rack legs, and a bolt would hold them in place. I then worked on the mechanisms to hold the rifle case in. I wanted something easy and secure that could be used from both sides. The swing arm idea seemed to work pretty well. Hopefully the photo gallery makes some sense of this😜 Bottom line is, I had a blast building it, and my buddy was very happy with how it turned out and more importantly-how it worked in the trip!

One looks like me, one acts like me!😂😂

Now, about the “Broken” week. The Oldest Munchkin was enjoying preseason practice for Indoor Track. I say “was”, because the older she gets, the more she acts like her old man!! 🤣🤣 while doing a drill for Pole Vault, she came down in her foot wrong and broke it if four places😳😞 we will see this week after a CT Scan how long she is out. On the bright side, we get to have her home four extra days!! 😜❤️❤️

Hopefully this week will go a little smoother, and I can get some more projects done!
