A New Chapter

I don’t even know where to start with the roller coaster the last couple weeks have been! My Oldest Munchkin has moved on to college. FIVE HOURS AWAY!! She was totally ready and prepared for this. I on the other had was totally NOT! It’s a cross between heart ache that she’s not here everyday, and heart bursting with joy because she is rockin’ it. She has jumped in with both feet and is moving on like no other.

I was lucky enough to have her want to spend some time with me, so last weekend we had some fun. Started the day out with Marching Band props-nothing big yet, just putting some plywood on what we refer to as the QBERT stage😜 Then we moved on to putting tires on the wheels from a 1931 Chevy/Howe Fire Truck. This was cool, she got in there and got her hands dirty and was excited to be part of helping to getting the old truck running-it was original to the Fire Department in the 30’s and ended up in Texas, and eventually back here and the Department is in the process of getting it going again. Then it was on to her project-she wanted a cube as storage/whatever for her dorm room. We went up to the local steel shop and browsed the drop room. She found some 1/2” rebar that she thought would be cool. So we ended up making the cube out of the rebar, and putting expanded metal on two sides and then 14ga plate steel on two other sides. On the plate, I took a flap disk and made swirl patterns-she was loving that! For the top, she cut a piece of 3/4” plywood and sanded it down, then she used a torch and pine tar to finish it. She did a lot of the spot welding stuff together and I just finished it out. Once she was happy, we put polyurethane on everything to protect it. All in all it was amazing to watch her these last couple weeks and see her spread her wings and take off, even if I wasn’t ready for it!! LOL

Next is the smoker, it’s not finished-but it is functional!!
