Reflecting on Down Time

You don’t realize how much you do, until you can’t. Crazy as this sounds, I have been planning on this blog for a while, and just didn’t have the time to pull the trigger. My second Cochlear implant surgery has definitely given me the opportunity for down time! LOL normally I would be in the barn building something or out at a friends place building or helping- basically a constant state of motion. Surgery on your ears tends to slow one down for a bit. It’s not really painful, it’s the soreness and the dizziness that gets you. And the quiet. Going almost 48 hrs with no sound was a surreal experience, and today having my right implant on has been almost overwhelming. I feel bad for the family, evidently when you can’t hear your own voice, you tend to shout! I thought they were over exaggerating, but my throat is a little sore like from yelling, so maybe they were right!LOL

I have come to the realization that my hearing had a larger effect on my life than I wanted to admit. This journey with the Cochlear Implants (CI) has really opened my eyes to a lot of different things, like how important good communication is. Missing bits and pieces can lead one to miss what others are trying to get across. Who knew right????

Anyway, thanks for reading or at least taking a look, my plan is to post something each weekend- usually a build or project and pictures! This week might be more of stuff I’ve done recently since, well I have down time!

    1. Thank you! My hope is that I can ease some of the stigma around hearing loss, any time you have questions, feel free to give me a shout-and the barn is always open on weekends for welding!!
